1. What is a daguerrotype? What did the surface of a daguerrotype resemble? When were they prominent? What photographic process did the daguerrotype replace? Daguerrotype is a photographic process, it consists of a silvered copper plate, which hides the image, and helps protect the plate. The image in a daguerreotype is in negative, but it can be viewed as a positive when the reflective surface reflects something dark. 

 


2. What is an "albumen" print? What was the main "ingredient" of the albumen process? When did the albumen process die out? Albumen is the stuff produced  on the photographic paper based form a negative. The main ingredient is egg whites. It died out torwd the 1920's

 


3. What is a "stereograph?" When were they popular? It is a 3D image, using 2 seperate pieces of paper. 1850's

 


4. What is a "carte de visite?" What were they used for? They are photographs small albumen prints mounted on cards 2-1/2 by 4 inches. They are used for album prints

 
 
5. Who were Matthew Brady and Alexander Gardner?They both are notable for what type of photography? When were they active? Post two noteworthy photographs for each photographer. THey were partners and very good photographers for america. American, Civil war photographs. 1850's

B) What photography was he known for? The first photograph

C) What was noteworthy and important about this photograph? It was the first photograph that was taken.

D) Where was the photo taken? At Saint-Loup-de-Varennes

E) How long did it take to make the exposure? 8 hours

F) What year was the photo taken? 1826


*Extra Credit: Where is the photo housed/kept today? The first photograph is currently kept in Germany for exhibition, and it will be back on display at the Ransom Center in February 2013.
